On June 2nd, Alex Johnson, Executive Director of the Children’s Defense Fund – California, and Lorena Sanchez, Health Programs Coordinator, joined nurses and medical staff from Compton Unified School District to celebrate the official accreditation of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital in South Los Angeles. The hospital, which open its doors on August 7th, will provide inpatient primary care, emergency services, and health education and outreach services to million of families in Compton, Inglewood, Watts, Willowbrook and Lynwood.
“The opening of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital represents a historic victory for health in Los Angeles and should serve a model for the entire state,” said Alex Johnson. “This state-of-the-art health facility will ensure that all people, regardless of their zip code, have access to the high quality, affordable health coverage they need to survive and thrive.”
