CDF has worked for many years to get something basic and essential: seamless, comprehensive and affordable health coverage for ALL children.  As we speak, Congressional leaders are working to solidify enough support in the House of Representatives for a make-or-break decision on health care reform. NOW is the time for Members of Congress to hear from their constituents letting them know that children need their “YES” vote on national health reform legislation.

A vote in the House of Representatives is expected later this week.

If it passes, the health reform bill would:

• Guarantee access to health coverage for 31 million people in American including more than 95% of all children;

• Extend coverage for foster care children and young adults with private insurance to age 26;

• Maintain the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) until it is determined whether the new “health insurance exchanges” are safe for children and provide them benefits and cost protections comparable to or better than they have now; and

• Immediately prevent insurance companies from unjustly denying coverage because of pre-existing conditions or annual or lifetime limits.
